Getting Your Dentures
From first visit to a beautiful finished denture.
If you are shopping for dentures, you’ll discover a range of possibilities. You may be surprised to discover that strides in modern cosmetic dentistry make it possible for you to create a smile as natural as it’s ever been.
Dental professionals personalize dentures by considering everything from the shape of your face and the tone of your skin to your gender before creating – one tooth at a time – a denture that offers the most harmonious interplay of individual tooth form, size, color and arrangement.
Choosing Your Tooth Shade
Find the perfect shade for your new smile.
For beautiful, lifelike dentures, choosing the right shade is essential. The shade of your new denture teeth can be matched to an existing tooth or photo. You can also choose a whiter shade, optimized for your skin tone and age. Whether you’re looking to match the color of your original teeth or would prefer a brighter look, your clinician can help you make the perfect selection. With a variety of shades to choose from, you’re sure to find the right look.
Key questions to ask when selecting your tooth shade.
Do you have a previous denture that you want to match in shade?
Do you want your denture tooth shade to reflect your previous natural appearance?
Were you a tobacco user or had teeth with a darker appearance?
What shade matches your skin tone for best aesthetics and age appropriateness?
Selecting Your Tooth Style
How to Choose the Right Size and Shape for Your New Denture Teeth
The size and shape of your denture teeth are just as important as their shade. Different tooth shapes and sizes can provide a more masculine or feminine appearance and can even match the shape of your face. Discuss these options with your clinician when choosing your new denture teeth to ensure the most beautiful and natural smile possible.
Determining Your Gum Color
Beautiful teeth deserve beautiful gums.
Your gums are as unique as your teeth. Talk to your clinician about choosing the shade that best matches your natural gums: original, light, light reddish pink, or dark pink. Each shade features special fibers and balanced translucency to replicate your natural appearance.
The Denture Process
The Preliminary Impression
A thorough duplication is taken of your gum anatomy and sent to the laboratory that will craft your dentures.*
Final Impression & Records
Using a customized tool from the laboratory, the clinician will take a final impression of your gum anatomy, as well as digital records that can be used to order replacement dentures in the future.
Try-In
The Try-In is a "first draft" of your dentures. Your clinician will note any changes that need to be made to ensure that your final dentures fit flawlessly and send it back to the laboratory.

*Immediate Dentures – After tooth extraction, it may be advised to wait until the gums have healed completely and shrunk to their final, permanent shape before getting a new set of dentures. In this case, immediate dentures are available. Talk to your dentist to see what treatment is the best for you.
